Advanced Allergy Therapeutics – Day 1

Advanced Allergy TherapeuticsAllergies can be a BEAR.  Who’s with me?  My husband has struggled with them for years.   We’ve definitely seen improvement in his symptoms over the last few years, but we haven’t had sustained breakthrough.    He’s off the OTC allergy meds, except for a couple times a year.   He’s been using essential oils like Young Living lavender, peppermint, and lemon, and that helps a LOT.   He also did a colon cleanse, and did better while we were living in Kansas City.  Moving south set him off again though.  We’re considering moving farther south, near the national forest and my family, but that REALLY sets off his allergies.   The forest, not my family.  I think.  🙂  🙂  Can’t live there if he can’t breathe!

Some good friends of ours have seen a practitioner who used Advanced Allergy Therapeutics, and raved about their results.  Since we didn’t want to go to the allergy shots route, we decided to give it a try!

Hubby has had one visit so far, and we want to share the journey with you, so you see the results, no matter what they are!   I looked up AAT before we started, and I know I would have loved to find a good blog about it!

The concept behind AAT is fascinating.   It’s a little out of the box for me, but it has a great track record.   The premise is to retrain our bodies that the threat it perceives is not actually a threat.    Their website describes it like this:

AAT does not treat the immune system; instead, the therapy focuses on inappropriate reactions to a harmless substance in relation to the organs systems to produce rapid, long-term results for the relief of associated symptoms.

According to the site, most patients see a result with a particular substance with only 1 or 2 treatments.   Wow!   It’ll be awesome if it works that way!

Our First Visit
AAT is generally performed in a chiropractor’s office.   Our doctor put a cuff around Hubby’s arm, and the computer sent signals into the cuff, that the body then interpreted as various substances.   Then he held his other arm out straight, and the doctor did some stress testing.  I had never seen muscle testing down by a professional, and it was fascinating!
The process worked like this:
1. Send a signal through the cuff
2. Push down on his arm that was held out straight.  She used about the amount of pressure you’d use when you close a door.
3. If he could hold his arm up, he wasn’t sensitive.
4. If his arm fell down, he was sensitive.   It was amazing to watch him lose so much muscle strength on a particular substance, but then be fine for the next one.

She tested him for about 60 different things (of the 30,000 she has in the computer) including trees, nuts, grasses, dairy, meat, soy, vinegar, chocolate, cats, and histamines.  He had a positive response to 30 of them.   This wasn’t a surprise, since we’d had testing done at an allergist about 4 years ago.

We decided to treat him for histamines that day.   She said his body was over-producing the histamines.  When he encountered an allergen (almost constantly!), his body would produce histamines.  Then, he would produce more histamines to fight the ones he’d already produced!  Sigh.

Treatment
For the treatment, she tested him one more time for histamines.  He had a positive reaction. Then, she sent the signal for histamines into the cuff.  He stood up, and she used a device that performs accupressure on his back.  She said that it was clearing his meridians.   She then tested him again and he didn’t react!   Interesting, very interesting.   He has two appointments this week – we’ll see how it goes!

Have you ever heard of or used AAT?
