• Mindfulness

Guest post by Joshalyn McHargue I distinctly remember the first time I learned about mindfulness. It was during a counseling lecture, and my professor encouraged my classmates and me to make it a consistent part of our lives to avoid burnout. As a counselor in training, I was initially interested in how it could improve my counseling skills. Soon after I began practicing mindfulness, however, I found it to be a helpful tool in my life as a wife, friend, daughter, employee, and well, a human being! Put simply, mindfulness is the intentional act of being fully present in a moment. It involves becoming aware of your thoughts and knowing…

  • Betrayal by Think Dirty App

We have long relied on the Think Dirty App to help us identify products that are healthier and less toxic. It gave us ratings on how good or bad something was in regards to being cancer causing, toxic to our reproductive/developmental systems, and allergies and immunotoxins. The app has changed, and those indicators NO LONGER appear. Worse, many of the products that were once rated badly now appear with MUCH better ratings. Products that were a 10 have changed to a 5, overnight. Other products, as I was searching for them, popped up as the 9 or 10 they once were, then gave an app error, and reverted to a…

  • Toxic Free Cleaning Made Easy

My hat is off to those mamas that love to make their own cleaning supplies!   I’ve dabbled in that, and eventually decided that it was simpler for me to purchase something that was already made!  Invariably, I’d end up an ingredient short, or without a good container, or I wouldn’t be happy with how it worked! While I didn’t want to make it myself, I didn’t want to compromise on quality and non-toxic-ness.  Is that a word?    The Thieves line from YL has been a game-changer for me!  If you came over to my house, you’d find Thieves in the kitchen (the dish soap and dishwasher detergent), laundry…

  • Is Your Makeup Toxic? You’ll Be Surprised!

My sweet husband always told me that I didn’t need to wear makeup.   That he liked me just fine without it.    Then, I’d dress up to go on a date and he’d love how I looked, with makeup.   LOL.  One day, I discovered an app called Think Dirty Shop Clean and scanned the makeup I was using.   I was SHOCKED and thanked him for encouraging me not to wear it! Since repeated low doses of chemical exposure over time is a primary cause of disease, the more we can reduce the amount of chemicals we put IN and ON our bodies, the better!   A high percentage of cancers are…

  • How to Neutralize the Danger of Smartphones & Watches

I have a pretty awesome brother (and nope, he didn’t pay me to write that).  He works for Apple, and he won an Apple Watch at his job for good performance.   He suspected that it was the tool I didn’t know I needed, and correctly guessed that I would never buy one for myself. I was so thrilled to receive it, but also cautious.  I have a healthy respect for the amount of EMF’s (electro-magnetic frequencies) that are emitted from the devices that we call carry around!    EMF’s have been linked to all sorts of brain issues and illnesses.  Learn more here:  Is EMF Exposure Really a…

  • I Was Brave & It Paid Off

I’d heard of this modality in the world of natural health, and one of my friends even practices it.   I hadn’t been brave enough to say, ok my turn! until last week. And, predictably, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!   It was fascinating and I actually liked it!    So much so that I’m going back again tomorrow! What is this mystery treatment? Acupuncture.  Have you tried it?  All I could think about were the needles!  Ugh!!   BUT – they really are teeny tiny!   And I only felt them a couple of times. When I did feel them is KEY – because…

  • When You Must Avoid Oil Pulling!

Have you tried oil pulling yet?   It’s a simple technique that is very good for your oral health!  I’ve personally used to help my gums.  They were starting to recede (ouch!!) but a little oil pulling fixed them right up! We’re going to talk about how to oil pull, but I want to caution you.  If you have mercury fillings in your teeth, DO NOT oil pull until you have them removed!   And, please do have them removed.  Those mercury fillings are leaching mercury (gah!) into your body!!   If you oil pull when you have mercury fillings, the mercury is leached even faster!  (double gah!!) How do…

  • For Girls’ Eyes Only

If you’re of the male persuasion, welcome, but may I suggest you find another post to read?  There’s a wonderful list of recent posts just to your right.   This one is for the girls. Ladies, we have a delicate subject to address today.  Did you know that the products commonly available for our monthly cycles likely contain carcinogens?  Yup, more carcinogens.  Sigh.   Dioxins Tampons contain dioxins, created during the bleaching process.  They’re in very small amounts and the FDA says these small amounts won’t hurt us.  BUT, the EPA hasn’t set an “acceptable” level of exposure since the real danger lies in repeated contact.  Would using about 4-5…
