Review: Horizons 2nd Grade Spelling & Vocabulary Set
Over the summer, we had the opportunity to review the Horizons 2nd Grade Spelling & Vocabulary Set from Alpha Omega Publications. Alpha Omega Publications generously sent us the 2nd grade Spelling and Vocabulary workbook, Teacher’s Guide, and Dictionary. This was our first experience with Horizons materials, and we loved it! Spelling hasn’t been one of those subjects that we’ve focused on yet. As we enter 3rd grade, it’s definitely on the agenda! Vocabulary has just come naturally as Super D reads. So, I was excited for the opportunity to focus on both spelling and vocabulary. The lessons are broken down into weeks, with one lesson per day,…

Review: Funtastic Science Unit Studies for Homeschoolers and Teachers
Science is one of my favorite subjects! I was a science major in college and enjoy passing the love of science on to my kids. It’s a subject we haven’t specifically focused on a lot, so I was excited to receive a copy of Science Unit Studies for Homeschoolers and Teachers from Funtastic Unit Studies. Susan Kilbride is a homeschooling mom with a degree in biology. She noticed that lots of homeschool moms feel uncomfortable teaching science to their kids, so she decided to help! Her unit study book is a fantastic answer! It includes twenty different chapters. Ten chapters are geared for ages 4-7, and the other…

Review: The Conversation by Leigh Bortins
Leigh Bortins has delivered another gem of a book in her newest release, The Conversation. Her first two works, entitled The Core, and The Question, delve into the expression of the classical model of education in the elementary and middle school years. The Conversation focuses on the high school years. I was given a copy of her book, The Conversation, published by Classical Conversations, to read for the purpose of this review. In classical education, each subject is learned through three distinct phases: the grammar stage, the dialectic stage, and the rhetoric stage. In the grammar stage, we learn the basics and vocabulary for a subject. In the dialectic stage,…

With Lee in Virginia: Audio Adventure Review!
I love the way audiobooks can bring stories to life and captivate kids! For the most part, I don’t enjoy reading out loud, so audiobooks are a perfect solution for us! Heirloom Audio Productions offered us the opportunity to review With Lee in Virginia earlier this summer. I’ve been intrigued by their previous productions including In Freedom’s Cause, and so was eager to give this audio adventure a listen. They sent us a beautiful 2 cd set, containing over 2 hours of audio. Heirloom Audio Productions focus on several important aspects in their productions that definitely set them apart. First, they believe that history demonstrates God’s sovereignty…

Homeschool Planet (Online Homeschool Planner) Review
Homeschool Buyers Co-op is a homeschool online discount curriculum store! I love finding good deals there! They are homeschoolers themselves and dedicated to finding good resources for homeschooling families. They saw the need for a homeschool planner that was thorough, but where you didn’t pull your hair out using it. So, they developed an online, mobile-friendly planner called Homeschool Planet. I was given a year’s subscription for the purpose of this review, and I look forward to using it to help keep us on point. Like a lot of homeschooling moms, I juggle a lot, and I’d like to use this program for some built-in accountability for getting…

Cursive Logic Review
I picked up a cursive handwriting book for Super D at the beginning of last year, thinking we’d practice. The only trouble was, that particular book showed him letters to copy, but didn’t actually teach him the METHOD behind cursive writing. It expected, I suppose, for him to either learn that elsewhere or figure it out as he went along. Neither of those happened for us, so I was super excited to have the opportunity to review CursiveLogic, a program that actually teaches students how to write in cursive. Linda Shrewsbury kindly sent me her new CursiveLogic Workbook to use with Super D for the purpose of this review. Linda…
