Confidence – 5 Tips to Build Yours!
How many of you struggle with feeling confident? You want to do something whether it’s start and grow a business, learn a new sport or hobby, or learn something new, but you second guess yourself and talk yourself out of it before you even get started. OR you get started, but when your initial efforts aren’t a raging success, that inner voice says, “See? You can’t do this”, and you give up.
Did you know you’re not alone? The BIGGEST difference between someone that “makes it” and someone that doesn’t is literally that they did not give up. They didn’t quit! How many of you can commit to not quit??
How much easier would it be to not quit, IF you have the confidence that you’re going to make it. I want to share a few tips that have greatly helped my confidence. I am still learning and growing, and developing my confidence and new levels of leadership all the time! I doubt this process ever stops, but it gets easier as you get tools in your tool belt. Now when I know that I need more confidence, I know how to up my game to get it! And I’m going to let you in on my secrets hehe.
Tip #1
Know who you are in God. When you realize that you are a son or daughter of the King of Kings, that you are highly favored and sought after, that can make ALL The difference! When I’m in a stretching situation where I’m stepping out to do something new and uncomfortable, I center in that place of remembering: I’m a daughter of the King! My Daddy in heaven uses the earth as His footstool!! Whom do I have to fear?? My confidence level shoots up and it’s go time!
Tip #2
Study those who have gone before you. You’ve probably heard that adage, “Leaders are readers” and it’s TRUE!!! Commit to read a book relevant to the area you’re growing in, whether it’s business, investing, hobbies, or self-improvement! Set a frequency for how often you’re going to read a book, and find a method that works for you. Do you have a commute? Or have some quiet time while you’re folding laundry? Listen to an Audible book! Where there’s a will, there is a way. By committing to read, you are committing to growth.
Tip #3
Change your thinking! So many of us have audio tracks of negative self-talk that play over and over again in our heads, telling us that we’re a failure, we can’t do it, we’ll never succeed, etc etc. We each have our own unique flavor. Good news: you have the power to turn it off! Replace the negative self-talk with the truth! A friend of mine describes her tool for this replacement – she pictures a conveyor belt running through her mind, filled with thoughts. When she notices that she’s picked up some negative talk, she simply sticks it back on the belt, and away it goes. No need to keep it, and no emotion involved in its departure. Just matter of fact, back on the belt it goes! Then, she picks up positive thoughts instead.
Tip #4
Envision yourself the way you’d like things to be. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Habakkuk 2 admonishes us to write the vision and make it plain, so that he who reads it may run. If you don’t know what you’re aiming for, and you don’t picture yourself there, you won’t hit your target! Picture yourself having attained that business goal. What will it mean for your life? How will you feel about yourself?
Tip #5
Practice thankfulness. A thankful heart prepares the way for the Lord. Purposely find things to be thankful for in your day, every day. And write them down! The act of writing them out increases the impact of the exercise in your heart and mind.
