CTC Math Online Review

CTCMath Review

CTC Math is a very thorough online math program!   They offer math lessons for kids that attend school somewhere, and for homeschoolers.   Their materials for homeschoolers cover a core curriculum, and could be used as a base program.  We were given access to their 12 month Family Plan, which gives us access to all the grade levels, for up to ten students!    They are NOT based on Common Core. 🙂

CTC Math offers a wide variety of curriculum options, all broken down into manageable sections.   Their instruction begins with kindergarten, goes all the way through elementary school, and includes more intimidating subjects like Algebra, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Geometry, and Trigonometry.   Students work at their own pace, and can repeat a lesson as often as necessary.   The program also includes printable worksheets, as well as the opportunity to print out their work after each lesson, to see what they missed and correct their answers on paper.

I love that this is Internet based, and Super D can work on his math on either my computer or the iPad.  This flexibility is great for us, because he can practice at tae kwon do while he waits for his class.  (We spend a lot of time there since Sweetheart has her own class now.)

CTC Math also includes diagnostic programs to help give an idea of how our student is doing in various sections.   There are shorter tests and more complete assessments, depending on the needs of the student.   As a homeschooling mom, I’m always grateful for opportunities for assessment, helping to gauge where my student is.  A few of the concepts were unfamiliar to him (and me!) when Super D took the assessment, but we figured it out and he quickly grasped the concept.

There are even more options available under Measurement, Space and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.    We spent most of our time with CTC Math working on subtraction.   We watched the video for the appropriate lesson, and then Super D worked through the lessons.   Since we’re working on carrying with subtraction, I LOVED that he could “cross out” the numbers, on the computer!

What a neat way to help him visually see how to work each problem, just like he was doing it with a pencil.   This would have been a great way for him to learn this skill, but it also served as a great follow-up to the instruction he received in our usual math program.

After we finished the lesson, he would spend time on the Speed Drills. He had a great time trying to beat his score from the last time he played, and would play again and again.

In Conclusion
We’ve really enjoyed using CTC Math for the last few weeks, and I’ll definitely keep using it for diagnostics and review.
